  • Oh, I didn't mention that I was involved in an Across The Sky, Mark Schultz, Avalon concert last Sunday night, through WJTL Radio. I got a chance to work with John Shirk, which doesn't often happen. John is kind of a low-key guy, nice man, nice family, but his wife. Gloria, comes across as the lively one of the pair! I guess John is the rock of the family.  I enjoyed Across the Sky. It's amzing how much the guitarist ( there are two members: keyboards and guitar) would fit in with the early-60s Kinks: hair, apparel, the whole thing. Avalon was Avalon; what can you say. glitz and harmony. If that's your thing, I guess it's good. Of course, you don't get anywhere NEAR them. they are STAHRS!Now, Mark Schultz is a different story. What a nice, down-to-earth guy this man is, and I love his music. I got a chance to talk to him for about 45 seconds ( it's amazing what communication can happen in 45 seconds) and found out that he is indeed directly responsible for the incredibly tight, inspirational harmony on his recordings. I suspect that he is his own back-up singer on more than one track. It is so good, and his lyrics really resonate with me. According to his website, ( www.markschultzmusic.com) he composes only in a music room in a Presbyterian church in Nashville.
